The Peer Mediation Program is an intervention that assists the school in reducing the number of conflicts between students, and fosters a more positive atmosphere. Current members of the peer mediation program are students in grades 4-8, who have been trained in the mediation skills. There are a total of 31 mediators this school year.
The Peer Mediation Program was developed as a result of the school’s commitment to supporting students social emotional learning, and through our partnership with Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility. All mediators participate in a rigorous process that includes a nomination, interview and if selected a 2 day trainings. Once they have completed the training, students continuously participate in monthly workshops to support their understanding and ability to mediate conflicts.
